Bluemolly is Marcos Alves (vocals, guitar), Thom Martinez
(bass, backing vocals), and Mario Santillan (drums).
Living, breathing, and performing in and around the glitz, the glam,
the showy façade which all but defines Los Angeles has afforded
this trio the luxury of perspective with regard to music.
Their debut album Waited So Long reveals that they are here to deliver
candid songs and
prove there are facets of rock music which have not been fully tapped.
Rather than emulate what's been done, Bluemolly sets its own
pace, it's own mood.
Sure it's rock, but that's only a tiny fraction of the Bluemolly
experience. That said, the themes of the music range from loss and struggle
to pitting want against need and desperation against hope. Even more engaging
is the fact that the themes are carried out with incredible power and finesse.
Marcos' vocals and lyrics have a way of bringing about a sense of urgency that
cannot be ignored.
Even live, Bluemolly finds ways to uncover textures and levels of
auditory bliss one would never expect from a three-piece.
Maybe it's the guitar's steady vibration from roaring amps, the melting
aura of the bass, or the dynamic, heart-stopping percussion. How
three guys can deliver the sounds they do so consistently is the eighth
wonder of the world. Whatever the secret ingredients are they come
together with the biggest heart and deepest soul, drawing listeners in
and involving them with the most personal of musical experiences.
